I'm 40 years old, Chassidish and new in Lakewood. Oak and Vine neighborhood, not in oak and vine.

I'd like to open my own business in my basement and would greatly appreciate your input.
I'd consider any of these:
1. Graphic design courses to girls. Is there a demand for this at all?
2. prepare and sell home cooked meals
3. open a Nursery or playgroup.
I have experience with all 3.
Which would bring in the most profit?
Would any Lakewood parent consider sending her child to a Chassidish playgroup?

Any other suggestions?
TIA

If you’ll teach my baby Yiddish, I’ll send her to you. Lol. I don’t speak Yiddish, and my husband doesn’t bother to teach my kids. In all seriousness though, it’s so hard to find a playgroup.

I think there is a need for a yiddish speaking play group, especially in your area.

There is a huge demand for graphics. Social media/ Amazon... But you have to be the type to run a business.

Playgroup will be the cheapest to get off the ground. One masa umatan ad ($15) and word of mouth...

Theres a graphic course for girls that usually runs through the winter (possibly summer too) in the area too.

Do research.

Don’t advertise your graphics course only for chassidishe girls. It doesn’t matter to a frum litvish girl if you are chassidish. If you give a good course all girls can benefit.

People are always looking for breakfast delivery options so that might be a good idea but you would have to pay for a hechsher.

Playgroup? Can’t go wrong if you have patience and are good at it!

Keep in mind that playgroup rates in Lakewood are generally lower than in BP.
There are many parents that would be happy to send to a yiddish speaking playgroup.

how much do playgroups charge?
What's regular playgroup hours?
What's the regular class size, kids per group?
If offering extended hours, how much can I charge per hour?

Do playgroups in Lakewood offer the same things that Boro Park playgroups do?
In Boro park playgroups offer:
lunch
snack
crafts,
a great program and toys
diapers and wipes are not included (usually)
transportation for an additional fee
Can I fill up a class without offering transportation?

Thanks again!

What age kids?
Im sending to a playgroup this coming year for the first time 18-24 months. 9-3:30 for $430 per month. She does not offer lunch or snacks the kids have to bring their own except for some special occasions where she'll serve ice cream/pizza etc. No transportation I dont know any who offer that. She'll do the program and the crafts/toys

No one really offers transportation. Everyone sends in their own diapers and wipes.
Kids bring in their own lunch.
Usually they bring a snack in the beginning of the month - like bag of pretzels or cookies and the teacher holds on to it and gives out so they all eat the same snack each day
Regular playgroup hours are 9:30-2
3:00-3:30 is considered extended hours

Please dont do 9:30 - 2. I know many people who need just a little earlier and just a little later but theres none available! My husband needs to drop off my baby latest at 9:15 and his kollel finishes at 1:45 then mincha is till 2 and he needs a few minutes to just go over to the babysitter!

Welcome to Lakewood!
I think a playgroups sounds the best. It’s always a demand. Find out which age group is needed most in your neighborhood.
In Lakewood most playgroups are from 9:15-2:15 to accommodate the yeshiva schedule. Many playgroups offer extended hours til 3/ 3:30 and obviously charge more for that.
No one provides transportation. Also most places don’t provide lunch besides the legal daycares. Some playgroups provide snack.
