There’s concern about a new wave of the coronavirus in Israel through the educational system as more and more reports are heard about staff members in educational institutions and daycare centers being diagnosed with the coronavirus, Channel 12 News reported. The latest reports are about staff members of daycare centers in Bnei Brak and Rosh HaAyin who tested positive for COVID-19.

Earlier on Thursday, about 50 children in a kindergarten in north Tel Aviv had to be quarantined after a staff member tested positive for the coronavirus.

Also on Thursday, an assistant at a kindergarten in Rishon L’Tzion was diagnosed with the coronavirus, sending the children and other staff members in the class into self-quarantine.

In Bnei Brak, an assistant at a special education gan was diagnosed with the coronavirus sending an unspecified number of children and staff members into quarantine. Earlier this week, 15 eighth-grade students in the Zichron Meir girls’ high school in Bnei Brak were required to self-quarantine after one of their classmates was diagnosed with the virus.

In Rechovot, where dozens of students at a school were quarantined after two staff members tested positive for the virus, a staff member at the Beit Chana hostel tested positive for the virus.

Three staff members and 27 residents were sent into self-quarantine and the other residents of the hostel will be tested for the virus.

Two students at the Rechovot school who were self-quarantining were diagnosed with the coronavirus on Tuesday.

Also on Tuesday, a toddler who attends a Tel Aviv daycare was diagnosed with the virus, sending 16 other toddlers into quarantine.

They just need to stop with the quarantine for exposed kids. Otherwise we'll be hearing about the new wave of kids starving to death because their parents couldn't get to work and the economy crashed.

They should just test the exposed kids and determine if they have it or not. If not, they don't need to be needlessly quarantined for the entire 14 days.

What does that mean? Kids have to stay in their rooms by themselves? Not very practical

They should have done thorough testing before accepting children and staff back at school...

They will still need 7 days, though.

Average time is 5-7 days incubation period. You can't test reliably before that. And, because of the numbers of false negatives, each person who is exposed needs to be tested twice. Protocol has been to test with a couple days in between.

In Israel, being in quarantine = staying isolated from everyone, including other family members, for 14 days.

Stay in a dedicated room, have one dedicated person pass you your meals, do not go out except to go to a (dedicated) bathroom.

It's very difficult.

Any testing they can do to minimize the time someone is in quarantine needlessly should be offered.

So it looks like the response to this is to quarantine the entire class or in the case of kindergarten, the whole school. This is not like the flu where only the sick stay home and everyone else can attend.
This is what everyone here is afraid of when people are screaming about opening up the schools. What will be the plan? Quarantine everyone in the building, or in the class? Or is the plan to simply let nature take it's course and let the virus spread? And if children are catching it they will probably infect parents, grandparents, siblings, neighbors, etc so we can anticipate lots of missed work and people who are going to need the hospital.

For this reason, many families have decided that if one of them needs to be quarantined, they will just quarantine the entire family. For many people isolating a single person, especially a child, for 14 days is not practical.

I think that route is fine, as long as the rest of the family remains at home as if they themselves were in quarantine. Now that many people are back to work, I'm not sure parents will be willing to do that.

ETA: I know people who took this route, isolating the entire family, but that was during the lockdown, when all it meant was canceling any non-urgent doctor appointments, not going outside in public spaces, and having someone else bring you your groceries.

Wow!
Spread picks up as soon as social distancing is relaxed.
I hope they will be able to control the spread and break the chains of transmission...

I thought that was the definition of quarantine everywhere. Complicated.

Quarantine, isolation, social distancing, staying home, and lockdown are often used interchangeably.

And unlike many places, Israel's Health Ministry has set very clear guidelines for what is required when someone needs to be quarantined.

Thank you for drawing attention to the phenomenon.
Perhaps it will give pause to all those chochmologim who think it is all over, who think they can reopen their schools in hiding, etc...

At first it looked like the capsules were safe. My grandchildren were assigned certain days or hours and only the 9 year old girl was still on Zoom. Then they opened up schools entirely and it doesn't appear to be the best choice because now more people are exposed at the same time.

The staff members were infected by the children? Or vis versa?

Both ways...
And Israel really wants to contain the disease, so they send everyone to quarantine...

Interesting, it doesn't look like either occurred!
