by our daughter we made a simchat bat or a sholom bat whichever one you want to say it. it was just easier for everyone to be there if it was during the week since all my husbands friends didn't live near us and we wanted my inlaws that came in from israel to be there to. but from what I was told there is no chiyuv for it to be on shabbos.

it's a matter of hakaras hatov to the Almighty for giving you a child.
And this is how it;s connected to shiduchim - kids who don't say pls & thanks you don't get the candy, so to say.
And can be done any time, but the sooner, the better.
