Just got some Skipjack tuna in a Whole Foods delivery. One can has a 7/8" dent on the side. Another one has a 3/4" scratch across the top, and the side surface is slightly irregular. I'm for tossing them - do other imas agree? TIA.

Basically not all dented cans are created equal.

If the top of the can looks puffed out, then definitely do NOT use the contents. If the top still looks nice and flat, then you know the seal has not been broken, and there's no bacterial activity going on.

You can always ask for the cans to be replaced by new ones. Tuna is not cheap, and the store needs to know that it's sending out damaged products.

My cats have just volunteered to taste test them for you. They say they are very good at identifying problematic bacteria, and they don't want you to take unnecessary risks.
