I want to become a mortgage or insurance underwriter. Do I need any kind of certification? Is training on the job or do I need to take a course? What course did you take and can you tell me about your journey? Thank you!!

You'll have to get licensed in the state you will be living, and you might need one for the state you're working in as well, I'm not clear on that I'll have to ask my dh. You can get on the job training, but there might be a course. He just did his training through his employer. Typically if you don't have any background in insurance you'll start off as customer service or something like that to learn about the business and then move up from there to the more technical side of things but some people do just go straight to underwriter.

Yes - You will need home state insurance license for most companies.
I actually know some insurance underwriters that are not licensed but worked their way up in the company.
