Nothing. Nothing at all. No one knows what goes on behind closed doors. Great family is meaningless chatter, IMO.

All family members get along with each other and the home is a comfortable environment for friends to be in.

That’s what it means to me.

This sounds about right to me, at least for a family. A great family is nice people, who get along with each other and with others.

If I heard specifically a "great home," I'd be thinking in terms of kitchen size and number of bathrooms LOL

ha! my first reaction was that it's a home that great for a family-good layout, enough bathrooms...
can you tell my mind is on houses lol!
then I realized that's not you meant

a great family is what other people have said- a family that at least seems like really nice, down to earth people that other people enjoy being around.

I also thought it was a house... and was about to write: Someone really wants to sell or rent a house...
that's what it means to me...

I assume, it is when you ask somebody about a family for shidduchim. It means they know nothing about them, but they come to Shul dressed nicely, smile and speak politely.

This is my definition of a great family:
A family where the parents get along well.
A family where each child feels loved and well taken care of physically and emotionally.
A family with a happy atmosphere most of the time.
A family who can grow through challenges both big and small with the right perspective.
No amount of money, size of house, brand of clothing will a great family make!

Parents who treat all children with love unconditionally, and understand that no child is born equal.
So really listening the what the child needs not what the parent wants the child to want

So the first thing that came to my mind was architectural. I was thinking of a large house with a very grand entry hall. Like the ones in the movies, with the large galleried staircase (or sometimes spiral) and a round center table with beautiful flowers on it. (Why in the movies is it never full of mail and car keys, like it is in real life?)

However after reading the thread I realize that was not at all what you had in mind. In that context, I envision a warm loving family where everyone gets along, and the home is full of Shalom and Simcha.

A home where the atmosphere is one of positivity and warmth, where the family members all love, respect, and support each other, and all are good, kind, caring, healthy, upstanding, honest, responsible, reliable people.

A home where people, especially the parents, are open to criticism and work to make improvements.
