Thinking of renting a small house or apartment for 2-3 weeks in the summer with kids, instead of camp. Either S. Florida or anywhere within a few hour drive of NYC (yes I know that's a big difference). I've never done this before. Can anyone suggest good websites?

AirBNB and VRBO are my first 2 go-to sites for any vacation destination.

Reserve Kosher is definitely worth checking, but in my experience with it, it has very few offerings available, which are usually booked up well in advance for prime dates (either by owners, or blocked off for use by the owner), and the rates are usually WAY higher than I can find on other sites where supply is much greater.

Yeah only plus is that it tends to be walking distance to shuls...
with airbnb/vrbo you fall in love , and then find out no shul

With AirBNB and VRBO, I check where the shul is that I want to be near, and then focus my rental search on the area around it. Obviously if it's a weekday stay, the search radius is much larger and easier to find. Shabbos-walkable rentals are obviously harder to come by, but B"H we've had a lot of success, though it does take some effort.

Would you be willing to share listings that worked for Shabbos?

It depends where you want to go. We have literally spent Shabbos in basically every significant Jewish community in the US, and many that are far from significant. Sometimes we luck out and know people in the local community who can host us, but if not, we have basically always found something nearby the shul, either a hotel or AirBNB. When in doubt, DH contacts the shul for suggestions.
But we usually start with a destination and then work backward from there, not the other way around. I could tell you that we once spent a lovely Shabbos in a beautiful AirBNB in Edinburgh - we did!, but that probably won't help you much if you're not looking to go to Scotland this summer.
