Can you advise
[truly a chesed for me - can't thank you enough for your time]

My 12 year old son who is on meds for adhd & anxiety
needs 8 hours of dental work done asap

[why it came to this is a whole nother story]

I'm being advised to either do it
under IV sedation
or
in the OR [5-6 hour]

Anyone done this with this age child?
Anyone knows the risks? Case for or against?

All input tremendously appreciated

Isnt IV sedation the same as what they’d give in the OR?

No
In the operating room it's general anesthesia
which means he's connected to a breathing machine
With IV sedation he's breathing on his own

There are Brooklyn dentist office that do this now.

I did it for my 5 year old son. It was amazing. He was a little cranky for the next three hours.

I want to go to the operating room option because for sedation we'll need to go four times
question is if I'm nuts for opting for that

You're not nuts because every sedation, the way my son had it, is a whole day affair. Get another opinion if he really needs that much work

I cannot advise you which option is best, but I am an OR nurse who has done this procedure and I can explain it in more detail if you like.

I did or for my daughter when she was 8
It was the best thing because she wasn’t traumatized because she didn’t remember. E got all the work done in one time and by the time she was 10 we were able to introduce the dentist again with just a cleaning then a checkup and only needed a filling 4-5 years later when she was older and no longer fighting the dentist

I agree 1000%. Especially if this is a dentist accepting Medicaid.
I was told my daughter needed 8 crowns and IV sedation. I took her to the local dental school for a second opinion and they told me she needed one crown and the rest were just four small cavities.

I have dental anxiety.
I've had oral surgery done at the periodontist under IV sedation.
My daughter also had oral surgery, and she requested it.
Insurance doesn't cover it, so be prepared to shell out a lot of money.
Your child will be conscious during the visit, but she won't remember a thing afterwards.

Really? My 10 year old had 7 cavities and one had to be removed and they are doing it in 3 visits. Also adhd and anxiety. Only through laughing gas
