I'm sorry I can't add to the hashkafa part of this discussion, but I wanted to share a quote that's touched me:

This is hashkafa Smile

OP's pain and confusion is because of her close connection to H'.
One does not feel brokenhearted when a stranger lands a punch to the face.
Price of love, indeed.

There's grief and there's suffering and they're not the same. Grief is a response to a particular event such as the loss of a loved one, the failure of a relationship, severe financial loss, miscarriage, or lost opportunity. If you're mentally healthy, you grieve intensely for a while, segue into gentler mourning for a while, and eventually stop mourning except , perhaps, at certain times such as when you say yizkor. You don't necessarily forget your sorrow entirely but you put it away in a box and take it out at the appropriate times. If your mourning is prolonged, your response is unhealthy. Queen Victoria, who mourned her Albert for the rest of her life and wore only black to prove it, is an example of what not to do.

Suffering, otoh, is a response to an ongoing situation. You don't stop suffering until either the cause of the suffering goes away or you develop some sort of resistance to the agent of your suffering. That's why feet and hands grow calluses.
