IHMO, the only way we are going to get past any of this, is to take race out of the conversation entirely. Just address the specific behaviors.

This person used hateful language, incited violence, etc.
This person violated the state gun laws.
This person destroyed public property.
This person threatened bodily harm.

I'm sure there's enough blame to go around.
