Um, we happen to be in the midst of a pandemic? Remember that?
I know you're trying to pretend it ain't so in the US, even though cases are rapidly rising there too. Travel has been pretty much been limited accross the globe, this isn't anything specific to Israel.

Everyone who left the country knew they might not be able to get back.
It was a choice made. There are those who stayed put and didn't run away in March.
Difficult to do over Pesach of course, but you can't have it both ways.
