Please help me choose kitchen cabinets, counters andfloors

Wow. Thanks everyone got the suggestions. So it’s mate darker floor but I’m not sure what color but a little patten. Maybe wood pattern. White cabinets and darker countertops. Probably granite if I find a pretty granite. Insane that granite is mostly doted which I don’t like. And the backsplash will be light. I wanted the backsplash to be the same stone as the counters but I don’t want it to nag e dark...

If you want white, go only with quartz or quartzite. Marble will stain and granite doesnt come in the modern white look.

I personally find quartz to be plasticky looking, the marble look quartz even more so. I went with white quartzite and love it. But like another poster above said, it's more expensive. Mine was over 5,000 per slab, including fabrication. But it is a show stopper. I've had it 2 years and it never looks dirty or stains. And I use my kitchen tons.

If you want to mix practicality with the modern look you can do the cabinets in a white shaker style, dark counter tops, and then have the island with the marble looking quartz, and in a navy or black

for floors the most practical are the wood like porcelain tiles - the grain hides the dirt, and don't go to dark, that also makes dirt stick out. Something a shade darker then the floor in the above picture...

If your kitchen is really tiny I would skip the island - it can really clutter up a small space

If it can fit an island comfortably I like how the black countertop matched the black island and the white marble quartz matched the white cabinets- I would find counters I like and match the island to that, it really pulls things together

for floors the nicest look is the same flooring you have in the dining room especiall in a small space

If you want tile for practical cleaning reasons - don't do a dark island with a dark it will make the space dark - something like this is fine but a very dark gray would be to much

I’m practical
Get a floor tile that won’t show lots of dirt. Is smooth with no grooves to catch dirt. Dark grout that won’t stain.
I like flat cabinets that wipe easily. The more grooves the more places to catch dust and grease and more time to clean. Same with drawer pulls - they are also harder to clean.

Regarding your possible island: You can do an island in navy and it will not make your kitchen look smaller. This is more a question of whether the island helps or hinders your workflow.

I recently did a kitchen design for a smallish kitchen 13 feet wide and with many design and budget constraints — yes, I do kitchen design and space planning professionally. Initially the homeowner did not want an island so we looked at alternatives such as a peninsula — but it blocked traffic flow. The kitchen will have an island because it's the best solution for their space.

No, no, no. Hardwood floors in a heavily used kitchen is a disaser waiting to happen. my kitchen wood-look floor doesn't go well with the rest of the house but I dont care. it's a separate room with its own decor, but if you do care you can either place the planks/tiles opposite direction of where it would meet rest of house, or you can try to match the coloring.

My kitchen is 150 x 220. My hardwood floor is the dinning room is older and I’m not changing it and the kitchen is not wide open to the dinning room it has a door. It’s an old small house. Thank you so much!

everything else is the same colors as some of the others I posted - but the floors darken it

Also very dark floors show dirt up just as much as very light ones (every speck of dust) the best coloring is in the middle

See how this kitchen also has dark counter tops and a dark island but it doesn't look so dark because the flooring is lighter - but still more practical then a very light/white

If your are doing tile you can still do wood grain but don't try to match it will just look off - do a different color, like if you are doing a brown hardwood do a grey wood -like tile

I don't have a big kitchen so I also did light. Everything but the floor. Ironically, my counters, backsplash and cabinets I love! And my floor which isn't light I don't love by far. I did Formica with a colored grain. Counters and backsplash the same material. It's stunning! I also did under and over the cabinets LED. It's very lichtig. And I'll repeat myself only do a matte floor.

My kitchen is 12x 15.5. But my fridg and ovens and a medium size pantry are in nooks that I have in the walls from the old design of the house. My island is 35” x 72.

I’m not sure if I will stick with the dark navy island or switch to light gray island. I think I will stick with white cabinets and countertops. The floor might be light wood like I’m not sure what material yet or light gray. What do you think?

I would do this type of tile for the floor if you go with navy, white, and gold finishing - if it's not open to the dining room it doesn't matter that it doesn't "match"
