I don’t want to use onion soup mix. Any idea what combo of spices I can use instead?

Onion powder is probably the most important. You can google "onion soup mix substitute." I remember reading through a few a while back.

A combination of onion, garlic and salt is perfect. What's the recipe you're trying to replace it from?

It’s for an onion soup recipe.
The recipes I looked up online have weird things like beef bouillon and celery seed

Yes! A number of companies make it. Check the package, they will usually state it quite obviously. (Be careful, some companies make it both ways. Check each package before buying)

Jamie Geller's recipe is delicious without the soup mix. It has so much flavor, all I add is extra salt that would have come from the mix.
