Hi,
Looking for tips and ideas for making a basement apartment look beautiful and homey
Links appreciated
Not on a large budget (hence the basement apartment) but want to live in a happy and and upbeat home that is organized and nicely decorated
Ideas for all rooms welcome
Light is obviously a big factor- 2 bathrooms with no windows, any ideas how to make it not so dreary?

Look up window frame style wall decor for the windowless bathrooms. It opens up the space.

Change all bulbs to bright LEDs to give you more light. If you write what sort of bulbs you have now, we can help with recommendations.

Get a Murphy bed so you can hide your bed when you have guests, get a room divider as well. Small furniture, like loveseat and 6 ppl dining set max.

Also, walls should be a light happy color, like peach, light yellow, cream...

Plants. Real if possible, fake if not.
A large poster of an outdoor scene, preferably with a lot of green such as a forest or meadow.
Resist clutter. You want as much open space as possible, so think vertical storage e.g. floor to ceiling shelves, rather than horizontal, and preferably with doors or at least a curtain to conceal the contents. Consider unconventional spaces for storage, such as under or behind a couch.
use light colors as much as possible. If your furniture is secondhand, dark, and not in beautiful condition, consider painting it with enamel paint in a light color. (Don't do this if it's expensive solid cherrywood in mint condition.)
Hang mirrors to visually expand the space and reflect light.
Go to apartmenttherapy.com for design ideas. Caveat: Some of their advice is idiotic, sometimes out and out accidents waiting to happen, like leaning large mirrors against walls and behind couches. Use your seichel.

This website has an exceptionally large selection of reasonably priced home-decor items. |
How are these prices even possible? Have you ordered from them before?

When prices are that good, you don't ask questions!
I haven't ordered yet, but I have a cart full of items that I plan on ordering one of these days...
