Hi. I always light the cooking gas when my cleaning help would like to cook herself some eggs for breakfast.

Today, I was distracted and she lit the gas herself. I know the eggs are not kosher, but does anyone know the status of the pot?

Were you significantly involved in the cooking at all? (Did you check the eggs for example? ).

I think you still need to ask a sha'ayla, but these are things to include.

You need to ask a sheila. It may depend on details.

I didn’t check the eggs - was busy sending my kids off to camp and then realized that my help cooked herself eggs.

My rav is on vacation for next 2 weeks and don’t know whom to call in the interim.

I guess will just put aside the pot and wait.

Definitely ask a Shaila. You may need to kasher the pot

Yep, you probably have to kasher the pan!

Maybe for the future you can buy her an electric one burner so that she can cook for herself and not affect your stovetop. We did that for health care aides.

You really need to ask your own Rav. AFAIK if you're sephardic you have a bigger problem, the Bet Yosef is more machmir on this.

I feed mine, it is more work on my part, but causes less problems in the long run.
I make mine eggs and toast-or whatever either the kids or I am eating. She sits down and is served, which I think is a good balance of roles as well.

She can use her own pot or you can give her one of yours that will be dedicated to her use. We give the home health aides a separate area for their cooking and eating. We also provide plastic plates and utensils. We've been doing this for years and it works very well.

We also provided a separate microwave and small fridge for their use.

There are no rabbis on this site. Please call one rather than rely on people here.

My help once made herself eggs and I had to throw out the pot.
