Please help. My 5 year old refuses to go to camp. He is bright and gets bored and then throws temper tantrums. I don’t blame him, I know backyard camps are not exactly the most stimulating environments but I work and this is the best option for him.
Help!! 😭
Has anyone dealt with this?!
Anything I can do besides for bribe him?
I feel terrible for the morahs running the camp, he tells them he doesn’t like it, and that he’s forced to come.

Why doesn't he like it?
We need more details if we are going to help you.

Many 5 year olds are forced to come.
Is it outside all day? How is he usually with school? Did he get too used to quiet during quarantine? Did he recently switch form one back yard camp to another? If it's the same camo, did the staffing change?
Don't underestimate bribery. But it can also be functional. Depending on what's going on, you might get him something to do on his own while he is there, if he's not liking the activity or needs a break.

Thanks for the responses.
He said he doesn’t like it because some of the boys don’t play with him, and he’s bored, too.
He was home these past few months when school was closed and we did more educational things together.
Free-play with a bunch of boys and minimal structure is hard for him.
What would be a reasonable activity that he can do by himself? Can you share some ideas?

Based on what you describe, you meed to talk to the counselors and find out what is actually happening before anything else.
