We have been using packing tape to shut our refrigerator light for shabbos but it is ruining the top of the fridge. Also, sometimes the tape comes a little loose and we have to press it down so that it won't come off and then we would be stuck. Any ideas of what else we can do?

Blue painters tape is less likely to ruin your fridge. You need to be careful when you apply it so it doesn’t loosen.
ETA: Happy Chick’s Velcro link looks great. We might just try that.
