Is it safe to send my bank account number and routing number on an attachment I send via gmail to someone (that someone has encrypted email through their work), so their end should be secure. I just don't know about gmail? What's a secure way to do this?

That information is on every check you have. Generally not considered private.

I'd be extremely nervous. I don't know a secure way to do this, honestly. Can you call them and give them the info over the phone?

You can send an email from Gmail in confidential mode. You can enter the recipients cell number and Gmail will send them a password to open the email, and the email will not be able to be forwarded or downloaded.

Otherwise, the most secure way would be to give them the account information over the phone.

I've had landlords give me all of that info in one email (instead of breaking it up) so that I could arrange direct deposit for the rent. They never seemed worried about it, either in the US or in Israel.

Anyone who you hand a check to will have this information. It’s not exactly confidential.

Gmail is safe.
That being said, if it's sent to someone's work place email, it's not, because even though they are "encrypted" , their IT department has full access to everyone's emails for sure and they do not have the resources to compete with the security that Gmail has.

I have sent bank/CC info thru gmail. But when I put the numbers, I write some numbers out in letter.
Such as: 44one6....

Curious, what would be unsafe about this?

I would be wary giving cc details over email since anyone can use those details to charge me, but what can bank details be used for aside from making me richer?

Can any of the posters here who feel it's unsafe explain why they aren't concerned about the hundreds of checks they've written over the years, every single check has both the routing and account numbers.

It seems several posters have pointed this out and it's being ignored.
