What's the consensus on walls?
Are people still doing gray?
My sil on the west coast thinks things are moving to white. Anyone heard this?

I wanted to install blinds to match my existing greige...
or will I regret it in a few years?

I think white is in and will always be. It's the cleanest and freshest.

Greige is not in with the young people. All shades of white.

How do you choose a white?
Is there some chochma to it, or must I outsource to a trained color specialist!?

White is awesome.

If you are doing it everywhere, Simply White (BM) or Oxford White (BM) are good choices.
Trim should be the same as walls, don't mix whites.

All shades of blue are in, as long as they are not tinted with green (no aqua).

Don't forget that you need to coordinate with your existing sofa. If it's a neutral color, you can tie it in with accent pillows that have all the elements in the pattern.

Sky blue, cobalt blue, true turquoise, marine blue, these are all the hot new colors. They look great with bright orange accents, like a picture of a bouquet of poppies, or a bowl of oranges. They tie in really well with gray neutrals, or black and chrome.

If that feels too modern, you can tone down the accent color to terra cotta, for a softer and more rustic cottage feel. Live plants make a great touch here, or a *terrarium on the coffee table. This works better with cream neutrals, brass, and dark wood.

(This is assuming that your kids won't destroy your new decorating efforts in 5 minutes flat! LOL )

Do what you love. YOU will be living there, so choose what feels good to you. I like dark brown, beige, burgundy and hidden green. That’s not "in" But it feels cozy to me.

FF just suggested blues. Choose them if you’d like, I cannot do blue because it doesn’t give me the comfort I want in my home.

I did white 4 years ago. Still loving it. Don’t choose the actual color “white”. There are many different versions that won’t make your house look stark, but nice and airy and open. I hired a decorator for one hour to help with paint colors and it was definitely worth it.

I"m not ready to paint again yet, but I want to choose blinds that won't be dated, so I guess I'd go with white zebra blinds, not gray - make sense?

And iy"H in a few years would paint in white...
We repainted the living and dining rooms only in the last few years - our whole downstairs is Balboa Mist.
How frustrating, when we moved in 5 years ago the designer pushed for greige but I actually would have done white.

And now that I think about it...
Are the Zebra Blinds still in?
Or is there something else trending?

Since you’re asking, I personally dislike them, but I always have... so it may have to do more with my personal taste than the latest trends. They have been in awhile though, so there’s probably something trendier out there.

Balboa mist in a sunny, airy room is really light... It's almost like white... I dont think it'll ever be too dated.

Also, re: the shades , try to go with whatever you like, trends change every few years. You can't go around redecorating every three years. (Unless you're super rich. But it would still be super impractical.)

No it's not a strong gray. It is in the OC collection so technically it is off white. When you have white ceiling and trim, it comes off as a lighter greige. The rooms are sunny rooms.

But to keep it up to date would the trim be painted the same color?

Personally I always found blues to be cold. It's your home, decorate it as you feel comfortable. Why does it matter what's 'in style'. You should walk into each room of your house and feel happy in that room, not 'why did the decorator talk me into these ridiculous colors/designs etc'. I usually go for classic which is never out of style.
You also need to think practically. When we lived in a rental the landlord fitted blinds to all the windows. Aside from the fact they weren't blackouts, they were sooo impractical with little kids who just broke them. So yes they may have given a neat impression originally, it didn't last.

Chantilly Lace is a very popular white these days. The mishpacha magazine actually had an article about paint colors a few weeks ago and discussed this color.

The advantage of blinds is that they are easy to replace. Get the ones you like that add to the room. You could replace them in a few years when you want an upgrade or a change.

It's not my personal taste, but gray is still in around here in Baltimore.

Keep in mind that you have to live there, so choose something you like. Gray can be dreary unless you have very good natural light or very good lighting.

I'm not one to give a hoot about what's "in"--it's my home and I'll decorate it in a way that I like, TYVM, not in a way that the fashion pundits decree. However, my landlord does the painting, and this time around he decided to change from a classic "linen-white" to something awful that I will call "dirty old underwear" and my mom would have called 'tattletale grey.' I suspect the paint was bought with less of an eye to current fashion than an eye to budget. It looks like there was a fire in a paint warehouse and smoke got in to the paint cans.

I hate it. In summer it makes the room feel dirty and depressing, while in winter it makes the room feel dirty, depressing, and cold. It also looks horrible next to furniture and other decor items, e.g. picture frames and lampshades, in the off-white/cream/brown family.

OTOH my niece loves grey and went so far as to paint an accent wall in her house a color that duplicates an overcast November sky. Diff'rent strokes. Moral of the story is you do you, if you like the color, go for it. If you don't, man up and tell the fashion police where they can go. It's your house and you, not they, have to live in it.
