The post on secular music yesterday got me thinking...

I gave up secular music a while ago, for personal reasons. But I really really love music and although I'm okay with a lot of the frum artists/singers out there, I do still feel like I'm still missing something.

Any suggestions of Jewish music that "lives up" to secular music in terms of quality? I AM NOT looking to debate Jewish vs. secular, or get into hashkafic issues etc. Just looking for good quality Jewish music that is real, complex, arranged well, makes you feel, etc. Please don't respond if you've never listened to secular music because you won't get what I'm talking about Smile

TIA!

The only one I feel ever comes comes close is the moshav band, especially the songs on their cd "dancing in a dangerus world".
Other than that, no.

I'm one of the 60s/70s oldies from the other thread.
Moshe Yess/Megama
Diaspora
Eighth Day

I also like Carlebach and (I've seen him perform online and he's so much fun) Mordechai Shapiro. Ruach -70s, kind of like Kol Salonika, etc.) There are isolated songs from various performers I enjoy too.

There are others, but not coming to mind at the moment.

I second Moshav Band. “Dancing in a Dangerous World” is my favorite album but “New Sun Rising” and “Misplaced” also have great songs. I like the “Shabbat” albums, too, although they don’t have English lyrics and are more mellow.

Aryeh Kunstler recently put out some good songs. I love “Up Like a Lion”.

Menachem Weinstein has a few great singles, too.

Levi Robin sounds like authentic country.

Make a playlist on Spotify. Sometimes Spotify will suggest similar songs as well.

I also love Yael Meyer, but not her very first album. Heartbeat, the Hunt, Shed Their Fear, Warrior Heart.

Which genre do you prefer?

ETA getting all involved because I’m also always on the hunt for this kind of music 😆 I kind of quit secular music a while ago but it’s hard to find the passion, emotion and soul in typical Jewish music.

I have a whole list! I'm very into music and I find the most random people that have a different style. I'll post after shabbos. Would you listen to people who are conservative or reform? Who all have songs that are about Hashem and stuff?

Oh my gosh, thank you everyone! I'm so excited about this.

So as for secular, I love country, pop, and (don't judge me) Christian music. I find that if you just listen to the words (and obviously take any JC etc out of the picture) the meaning is so soulful, and can really inspire growth, connection to Hashem, and spiritual feelings. In any case, I don't listen to that stuff anymore but that's just an idea of the kind of music I like. Also, I'm fine with any language, not just English. Hebrew is okay. I just want music that is Jewish by nature, but that fills the part of me that feels like it's missing something.

Here's my current playlist for whoever wants ideas:
Ana by Matt Dubb and Itzik Dadya
Closer by Aryeh Kunstler
Accept by Aryeh Kunstler
Nachamu by Aryeh Kunstler
Keli by Aryeh Kunslter ft. Yosef Karduner
Halev Sheli by Ishai Ribo
King of Tony's by Destiny
Open up by Gad Elbaz
Tombe by Dovid Haziza
Zeh Tov by Dovid Haziza
Kol Hanechalim by Naftali Kempeh
Ten Li Et Hayom Hazeh by Aaron Razel
Heroes by Chayala Neuhaus
Searching by Mesivta Shaaarei Pruzdor
Kol Sasoson by Duke Guillaume featureing Eli Zion
Mode Ani by Moshe Tischler
Pesach in the Ghetto by Dani Kunstler
Mishehu Iti Kan, Modeh Ani, Hakol Ltova, and Matanot Ktanot by Tzemed Yeled
Anim by Gad Feureisen
Ashira by Zevi Kaufman
Bunch of songs by Kinderlach, including Layla Tov Yeled, Make it Happen, Ein Od, Mode Ani, and Matay Tigdal?
Aifo? by Matt Dubb ft Beri Weber and Haim Israel
Mi Shebeirach (Live) by Yaakov Shwekey
Our Identity by Mizumen
Power by Yoni Z
Bring Back Our Boys by Shmueli
Nechake Lecha by Nathan Goshen and Ishai Ribo
Ma shehaya by Haim Israel
Tatty My King cover by Ami Eller
Feel the Music by Nachas
Ein Od Milvado by Amram Adar
Yagga by Eli Schwebel
Ari Goldwag's recent album Yesh Li Hakol is actually quite good. I liked Zeh Keili, Beyado, Ashira LaShem, and Ah Ahalela. I liked a few songs on his previous album Lo Nafsik Lirkod

Please keep sending ideas! Individual songs also, not just full albums, if you can.

For now I'd prefer to stick with songs that were created by and for frum people. I honestly find inspiration in tons of music completely non-Jewish (see above about Christian music haha) but right now I'd like to stay closer to home.

Please post your list!! I'd love to see (and hear) it.

raich - yes I second Chayala Neuhaus! Anyone know how to get CD’s or mp3’s of her music, sung by her (not by a young boy)?

Bracha Jaffe. I’m convinced had she not grown up frum, she would have been famous. Her voice is that spectacular and developed. That being said, I don’t think she writes her own songs.. but her covers are top notch professional and stunning.
