My in-laws were well off so they chose to pay almost all expenses for the whole family when they married off.
My parents struggle, and it doesn't occur to any of my siblings to take anything. We actually help them out whenever we can, like getting my mother an evening bag as a gift, taking the unmarried shopping, etc. (Well, mostly my siblings who are comfortably established... some more so than others).
This most recent wedding, my mother invited my DDs to get their hair done in the hall together with the kallah and unmarried sister. When I went to pay the stylist, she said it was all taken care of. It was much appreciated.
