We just moved to upstate ny, bh loving it! Didn’t move because of crime, only because of affordability, but am happy we did when hearing about the shoot outs in our previous area.

I live in Houston and about 20 new families moved into the community this summer with a few more planning on coming.
This has become the norm the past few years. The number one reason people are moving here is because they "just want to get out of New York"

My friend packed up her family and moved out to the Poconos- just 2 hours away from the city. Her husband is working remotely/commuting and she is homeschooling the kids. They bring a minyan out every Shabbos and she has a beautiful separate guest apartment that she rents out for weekends

How does this work? How do you just find 7-9 guys to join you every weekend? And where do they stay, especially if her guest apartment is rented out?

She has 5 bochurim who commute to Yeshiva, plus her husband, plus whoever is renting apartment, if they need more, the bochurim bring friends. It is a huge place with play ground, volleyball court, lots of rooms inside plus a beautiful shul. She moved in June, and she has to turn down company every week because she is overbooked. Also, in the summer, people rented houses in the neighborhood on homeaway and joined the minyan as well.

Sounds great, but it is still summer. Wait till the snowy winter, and she may have trouble getting people to come or her sons even be able to get back and forth with their commute....

Maybe, or people will still be banging her doors down to come - so many things to do there in fall and winter

If you can get there. They get a lot of snow & it's not an easy commute in a winter storm or its aftermath. She probably should invest in a generator, too, as a heavy snowstorm can knock out the electricity.
