I never even considered the question until I got married and realized DH did not want to sing in front of me. Growing up, no one cared if you had a good or bad voice, we all just sang.

My husband sings well and I'm musically inclined (and sing as well). So I get you OP.
But if this helps any....I just want to say, when I was in seminary 25 years ago, I used to do Chessed every week at a family that became like my little family away from home. Nicest people ever. She always gave me something freshly baked, like chocolate chip cookies, to take back with me to seminary, and she looked out for me, told me when I looked tired that I must rest up..... She had at the time 5 adorable little kids. I went to them for Shabbos and her husband, who could not sing a note to save his life, would take 3 of them on his lap at once, cuddle them, and "sing" the zemiros in it's entirety. It was such a beautiful site, I even forgot to let it grate on my ears.

what an amazing story!!
It definitely struck me as strange that my DH didn't want to sing. Singing is just something we did growing up, whether you were good or bad at it. No one should sing in a bothersome way, but singing is an expression of the soul, an integral part of spirituality ...

OP: I'm sure it's frustrating but giving you a bracha that this should be the worst thing that irritates you about DH

Op I am so glad you started this thread! My DH can sing ok but not the greatest and I am very particular about tonality so I have had to grin and bear it. He frequently makes up his own melodies for songs, has his own version of Eishes Chayil, for example. I'm happy to know I'm not the only wife in this situation!
