There's no typical. Maybe post where you live. Candle lighting in different regions will be at different times. Different communites daven at different paces.

A good estimate is probably about ten minutes later than an average Friday night meal. The time is linked to candles lighting, and when shul starts. There might be a short drasha before davening, or the davening may go slightly slower becuase people want to focus more on Rosh HaShana, but it really isnt that different to a regualr Friday night. There are a few short additions in the Amida, but nothing to make the davening significantly longer. This year first night is Friday night. Some communites will say a regular Kabbalat Shabbat, but a lot will omit most of it. (That doesn't mean that ma'ariv will start any earlier.)

Once you sit down at the table, getting through all the simanim means that it will be longer before you actually eat, but that is another matter.

I think they wait to daven maariv until it’s really night. So the meal starts a bit later then typical Friday night.

That is one of the things that will vary slightly in different communities. In my shul, ma'ariv on friday night is always at tzeit hacochavim. Other shuls may do it earlier ion Friday nigth or Rosh HaShana. The only chag that you can't bring in early is Shavuos.

OP, if you are going out, the best thing to do is probably to ask your hosts when they estimate the meal will begin.

(Second night, by the way, will be later, because you can't start any preparations until Shabbos is over.)

In my neighborhood, licht bentching will be 6:42. A regular Shabbos, màariv starts at 7:20 and is finished by 7:50. RH, màariv won't start until 60 minutes after shkia. They'll first start at 8, and daven slower. Shul will be finished close to 9.
