I vaguely remember having a frum Jewish teacher with that name, she was Ashkenazi and Israeli. But I can't find the name anywhere. Have you ever heard of it? Is it short for something? What's the source and meaning?

I've known someone called Shivti (in Israel).

It wasn't actually her full name, but an abbreviation for something. I don't actually remember her full name, but I remember being surprised when I saw it written down.

No. If you live in an English speaking country, just no.

The poor child will be called Shifty.

It sounds like a nickname. Not a regular full name on it's own. Maybe her name was "Shiffy" short for Shifra but as a kid to OP it sounded like "Shivti."

Quoting myself because I remembered her full name as I saw it in writing.

If I had only seen in writing I would probably have tried to pronounce it Shabbat-yah, but I think it is actually Shivtiyah, meaning Hashem has returned me (or has caused me to return).

Its actually a lovely name, and especially appropriate for this time of year.

Shivti just means "I will dwell" or "I may dwell" - in the whole pasuk (or song) it's "I may dwell in the house of Hashem all the days of my life", but just out of context, it's a bit weird IMO.

I wonder if we know the same person. Very educated?

I saw her name too and thought it had to do with Shabbat and then was surprised to hear it pronounced.

Itโ€™s not a name. Itโ€™s a word. Its in tehillim. No one just picks a random word and uses it for their child. Choose a name.

Some people pick a word. I'd say better by far than making one up ! But Shiviti is an AWFUL book
