It’s more of a Chasidish minhag. I’ve never went.

It's not a chassidish minhag. Women of all walks of life go.

Not OP, but if you go, do you know any reason why you do it besides that it's a minhag? It's a minhag in my family and I went most years. I have a very hard time doing it without understanding or being inspired.

I'm from chassidish background and my kallah teacher made it sound mandatory. First year married, at work eruv Yom Kippur. I called my mom about 3PM on the way home, to wish her an easy fast and a gut yom tov. I mentioned I'm on my way home from work and she asked me if there's places open so late, as she'd always done it first thing in the morning. She told me she'll try to find someplace. Meanwhile I called husband and he said he will call his Rav, who said that although he thinks it's the right thing, if I can't find someplace it's OK, especially as I haven't done it before so it's not like I already have established chazaka. The next year I just called in advance and told him my day is very stressful with work, meal, eruv YT prep, etc and I don't want to go. He said ok it's not a must. I'm married a lot more years by now and no longer work eruv YK, but never went.

I love going, it just feels right. There’s no chafifa and no bracha, just a quick dip.

Same here. Wouldn’t be possible in my community as they turn the women’s mik over to the men erev YK.And then it has to be drained, cleaned, refilled and rebrominated before women can use it again in the usual way.

Erev YK women use it the same way that men do. No chafifah, dunk, no bracha...

Many women go the night before also; it doesn't have to be on erev YK day.

My machzor says it's a "minhag yisroel" that women go before y'k

It may have gotten lost along the way, but it's definitely not a chassidishe minhag

It does get murky. The women don't necessarily wash off their makeup before they get in. I tried it for 2 years and then said its not for me. I find peparing for the seudas brings me more spirituality than the process of waiting and dipping mid day.

It was cleaner and easier the time I went the night before, right when they opened before it got busy, if you're interested.

You can go during 7 clean days not sure about when there’s the actual blood flowing. It’s very different you don’t even need to take off your jewelry.

Also I wonder how it will be this year because of corona, a bunch of ladies waiting together, no time for sanitization between rooms and all the chlorine in the world won’t help. The Mikva gets gross.

Its just 2/3 dips and out, and yes I go as my mother went too

But at least here in Jrsm the Mikvas erev YK are disgusting, smelly, dirty, long lines and many pushing in, old women asked for Derech Eretz from the yinger ones, and if you wish a porivate room then It's a real long wait, otherwise it's like a mens one I imagine

I hate it and still go, and they still charge you for it like around 25 Shekel

If it's very hard for you to do, being that it isn't mikvah night, you can probably take a shower with specifics, instead. Ask!

Aside for being a minhag, mikvah is a purifying concept. I'm sure there's a mystical reason behind this minhag.
