We would like to re-carpet our downstairs, can you suggest what colour to go for.
Many neighbours have grey, but I think grey is starting to go out.
Any suggestions?

Look for a medium color--too dark shows every speck of lint, too light shows everything else and develops 'cow tracks' in high-traffic areas--with an inconspicuous but busy pattern that will camouflage spots and spills. Unless you're refurbishing in order to sell the house soon, don't worry about what's 'in' but go for what you like. You, after all, have to live with it, and the fact is that most buyers hate the existing carpeting when they buy a house and replace it as soon as they can. The most common remark I've heard from friends buying houses was "Ugh--the carpeting!"
