They go to a school in a zip code with an uptick now, and can only remain open if they can actually space the kids 6 feet apart.

Yom Kippur is coming. If anyone who hosted an unmasked simcha in the past month wants to ask for me for mechila....go ahead.

Yes, that has been the requirement from DOH/NYSED for schools. It's a tough one especially for larger schools, I'd imagine.

What’s an absurd post Rolling Eyes
You are ridiculous.
An unmasked Simcha is the only thing you can think of?
I hope you realize just how obnoxious you sound.

I dont think its absurd. Unmasked simchas and other gatherings are what kept the virus spreading

There's no way for them to go to a hybrid model? My kids' schools have a plan that if they need to reduce capacity they will send home the older grades to do school virtually and spread out the younger grades into multiple classrooms. They figure the younger students do better in person and the older students can both manage better at home and also be left at home by parents who need to work.

Did all types of races and religions also have unmasked simchos?
How do you explain the 1000 cases in nyc?
Did they all attend “unmasked” simchos?
Where were all the cases in June?
I know of countless unmasked simchos since June, summer camps open etc and no, it doesn’t take two months to catch the virus. Banging head Banging head

Isn’t your school t fault because they aren’t following the law and spacing kids 6 ft apart.
Really they are to blame...why blame others? You are part of the problem by sending to school illegally. Should I forgive you now that my parents will be alone for succos?

NYS has a population just under 19.5 million. Around 30-40% of the positivies are coming from frum zipcodes, which is more than our population share. We also have mass systematic gatherings without masks. I understand why OP would be upset but we need an educstion program re masks. NYS is not having an uptick just our communities due to how we have large events mixing old and young together etc. No blame, we need education.

The police broke up some large non-Jewish weddings in Queens.
We do have to take responsibility for whatever we do, however, because we want to keep our own community healthy.

Whooaa back up! The regulations are masks OR social distancing. Not both. Most schools don't have space for social distancing unless they're on a ranch so they've been doing masks. Stop making ridiculous accusations

Sending to school illegally? What.... It's not illegal to send to school.

Yes, large simchos are a major outbreak source right now. Facts. So why risk it?

Exactly.

It's masks, social distancing, OR plexi.

And it's very very legal to send to school.

And very very NOT legal to host large simchos.

It is not a requirement within the pod format.

I’m not understanding: until now you were allowed to be open without 6 feet of distance? And now you can ONLY remain open if you do ensure that distance?
Our school (also NYS) needed a 6 foot or barrier policy in every classroom and any other setting (playground) in order to open to begin with.
If you feel so strongly about the simchas, you might want to question the close proximity that was apparently the norm in your school.

I teach in a school that is 100% compliant.
Children are:
Masked no face shields
Seated 4 feet apart behind a plexi-glass sneeze guards as suggested our governer.
Fever is taken daily
Mask breaks outdoors
NO cafeteria
No specialists

We are taking Covid seriously.

I don't believe pods are an accepted format for NYSED. They were only acceptable for DOH childcare facilities and given various other requirements. (ie. the teachers for the pod are dedicated solely for that pod and do not work in other rooms)

The small classes which could easily distance (my son only has eight kids in his class!) are just distanced. I think if they walk are out of their desks they are supposed to wear masks. And teachers have masks.
The bigger classes have a mixture of distancing and barriers (they rigged up clear vinyl shower curtains on pvc piping), with the same rules about out of desk.
They wear masks in the halls.
They wear masks on the bus (and are seated only with siblings).

They were not allowed. Many did open under the assumption they were doing the right things or because their reopening plans said that they were, and were not stopped.

It appears some are being corrected now.

This is what they did for my son’s preschool: he has to wear a mask in the hallway, but not in his classroom or on the playground. Teachers are masked at all times.
