Even different CAPs are different.

I had a cpa young fellow neighbor do our taxes last year over a cap older lady landlady ovr the past bunch of years. The new guy refiled old taxes and got us back mad money.

I know how cpas are trained and even they differ. kal v'choimer with someone who isn't even trained....

For what it's worth....

Having taken a lot of advanced tax training (I was a tax advisor in a former life), I'd HIGHLY recommend an EA over a CPA anyday for complicated business returns. For even the very most complicated PERSONAL tax return, the usual CPA is probably fine, but know that EAs have more *tax* training than CPAs in most cases.

CPAs certainly know more about bookeeping and record keeping aspects of money managment, but EAs know a lot more about intricate tax law for corporations and such.

And they get giddy over knowing the differences between all the different methods of depreciation which makes them a little dorky and kind of fun.

I took advanced tax courses with CPAs and EAs. I was neither, and decided never to become either, but preferring tax law over bookeeping and auditing and such, if I ever in a million years want to go back into the field, I'll become an EA.

I understand all the technicalities, but all I was trying to say was some people view it as lucky (although yes of course many factors come into play) when they received a refund yet paid nothing (just ss/med).

Got it. Just like some people think that the "better" your CPA, the more $$ you'll get back. Not always so simple.

What does ss/med mean?

I guess I should have just said FICA. Smile

wasn't it Hilary on the Fresh Prince who got her first paycheck from her first job and said "who is FICA and why is he getting all my money?"
