Sounds like a perfect soup for this type of weather.

Does anyone know how to make the soup and the doughy pieces

I do it in tomato soup.
Dumplings are flour, water, eggs, salt, pepper, sugar. Combine& mix to be a little runny but yet firm drop into soup while boiling. stir.

I don't know if this is considered nokerlach, but I do make dumplings like that.

Soup Dumplings
• 2 eggs
• pinch salt
• flour

Beat eggs with some salt. Add flour until you reach the consistency of a matzo ball mixture. 10 minutes before soup is ready, drop batter by tiny teaspoonfuls into the boiling soup and cook for the remaining 10 minutes.

You can put it into veg or split pea soup as well, or in gravy of chicken or beef stews.
