He was such a normal, good mench.
Definitely donated to so many people beyond Satmar.
He helped so many individuals too.
It's a tremendous loss.

So why are there those who still refuse to mask up. They are complicit here. And so is the gvt for not making sure our shuls and schools are safe.

In other news, Cuomo has to issue a halt order for a Satmar wedding planned with 10,000 attendees.

And then he's to blame for all our woes Banging head

It's very tragic that he passed away. But in my and many others opinion, masks do not help prevent the spread. You inhale plenty germs while wearing a mask.

All infectious disease experts are saying that it has now been proven to help. (Yes, I know they said different back in March, but they now know many things they didn't know then. It's time to move on from that.)

Not foolproof obviously, but a reasonable safety precaution.

Not sure why all the lay people in our communities think that their opinion counts and that they know better.

Okay, oiber chuchem.

What about huge masses of people at every tisch and wedding? Is that also safe, in your expert medical opinion?

Please keep your tone respectful, it's not that hard. You can say the same thing like a mentch.

It's 2 different things. The most important thing is for Sick and high risk people to stay home. Second to this is no crowded large gatherings. If everyone adhers to this, it will help way better than masks ever will. Masks cause respiratory illness and make sick people even more sick. You breathe in unfiltered germy air all day long. Masks are of no help at large crowded places.
I wear a mask because it's the law and not to cause a chilul hashem, but I don't think they help and I don't judge or call names those who don't wear a mask. None of my business.

Gathrings should bee avoided, that's right... and specially gatherings with singing or dancing...

In places like public tranport, shops, workplace, schools, masks can help avoid infection through undetected carriers...

The idea is that masks should stop undetected carriers of the disease from spreading little droplets full of virus in a room, because those droplets could be inhaled by other people in the room, and this could make them sick...

of course this is the ABC of contagion control. But it starts with the attitude of it's important to stop the spread. without that, people don't do the right thing even when it's obvious.

And even if they stay home if they're sick, what about the people who are contagious but don't know it yet?

Viruses are tiny, and this one is quite contagious. It is almost impossible to contain it, but there are steps to take to manage spread somewhat.

It starts with the leaders and community agreeing that this is a good and valuable thing to do. Every person who avoids getting sick, gets to go to work another day and another week and another month, and every person whose life is saved because he never caught it gets to be with his family another day, another month, and another year, and live a full life. This should be so obvious, and I can't understand why it's not. Some people have given up because everyone will catch it anyway. It's so frustrating to see this fatalism.

Once the decision to stop the spread has been made, there are steps to take.

1 - Sick people get tested, and isolate. Stay away from people altogether. Masks are not enough if you are actually sick with symptoms. Family members can also be contagious and should stay away from people until they know for sure (#2).

2 - Anyone who has come in contact with anyone who tested positive goes into quarantine to see whether they develop symptoms or test positive. To know for sure that someone is safe for society, this period can take 10-14 days.

3 - Gatherings are kept small, so that if someone tests positive, fewer people need to go into quarantine. One sick person at a large wedding could force 300 people into quarantine. This has nothing to do with big bad government trying to destroy our way of life. It's the basic rule of managing infectious disease.

4 - Even healthy people who don't know of any contact with Covid patients should wear masks, just in case they did catch it from someone and don't know it, and aren't showing symptoms yet. These carriers are the most dangerous in a way, because they don't even know that they need to be careful not to come in contact with vulnerable people.

People who walk around while knowing they are sick, even with masks, are beyond the pale of human decency.

Yet so many people that tested positive and are sick go out as if everything is normal. And as long as this is going on, we can wear masks forever but they still won't help. Sick people staying home and stopping large gatherings are #1 key in stopping the spread.
The big Rebba's staying quiet and not doing anything about it, is a big problem and discussion of it's own. If the Rebba's themselves aren't role model's of taking proper precautions, then of course their followers aren't taking proper precautions either.

Where do these sick people get the strength to go places? We can now legally leave the house according to the health department nurse who called a few days ago but I have to save my strength. She told us that we had to wait until 10 days after the start of symptoms and be afebrile for 24 hours. I still wouldn't waste my energy and may start with walking up and down the driveway.

Bd"e. Why don't you take the masks to a different thread and mourn Mr. Rispler on this one?

1) Mr. Rispler was paranoid and terrified of catching this virus. He wore a mask long after everyone stopped wearing them. He was so careful not to go anywhere. He finally let his guard down in Sept and attended an event, maskless bc he was giving a speech on the podium. Supposedly he caught it there. which is so tragic bc he'd been so careful. How long do people have to put their lives on hold and never attend events? It's so scary.

2) The Satmar wedding thing is a horrible mess, bc there were never going to be 10,000 people there. Some moser went and turned it into a whole blown-up thing. They had to change the location and go underground. It's gonna be a smaller event than planned; but it was never gonna have 10,000 people. And the location was even announced on CBS TV! So irreponsible -- any loony with a weapon can ch'v show up and do something bad. ugh.
