In new Square it's very common. 3/4 of a class can own this name but it's not from a bubby but their rebbetzin

Crazy that I knew this because of a previous job where I had to do a lot of cold calling. So many of the women from New Square had this name and I had never heard it before. I figured it must be after a Rebbetzin, and by your post I guessed right.

Have you done Simcha, for girl and boy.

Also Yoav
Yes! In my family we have boy Simchas and girl Simchas both named after my Zaidy a”h. It’s weird because we’re ashkenaz and always thought by ashkenazim you name boys Simcha and by sefardim you name girls Simcha

Frieda can either be from "Friede - peace" or from "Freid - Joy"

So it could be either shulamit - shlomit or Simcha

There is A wedding hall in Brooklyn Called Chynka
I heard that a women named Chynka always hated her name. She told her kids not to name their girls after her but to do other things in honor of her.
So her son built a school and a hall and named it after her

Had a number of friends married at that hall, always wondered about the name
