Wow, blast from the past. Lately I've been making the Family Table cookbook one.

My grandmother used to make something called cabbage strudel which we all loved. Dh does not:( its kinda like a knish dough wrapped arround sautéed cabbage. I haven't made it in a long time but think the dough was easy to work with. Hope I can dig up the recipe if ur interested. |
This sounds a lot like a cabbage kulebiyaka, a kind of savory Russian pie. Growing up, my father would make it and now I make it every Rosh Hashanah. It's amazing. Sauteed onions and cabbage, seasoned with dill and mixed with chopped hard boiled eggs, wrapped in dough and baked.

Thanks.
Im having trouble imagining the taste of raw cabbage added to the ingredients with no sauteeeing.
I think in most the Cabbage Kugel recipes, the cabbage gets fried.

So Pink Fridge's recipe is pretty much the same as mine, just doubled.
As I said, it tastes very much like potato kugel.
People sometimes don't believe me when I tell them it's cabbage....

Yes, I meant to compare the two. I saw yours and had a hunch it was the same or pretty close.

Saute 2 onions
Mix into
1 bag shredded cabbage - (In Israel that's 400 g, almost 1 pound)
3/4 c. cup potato starch (can use 1 c. flour instead)
1/2 cup oil
4 eggs
1 tbs onion soup mix
Salt pepper to taste
Mix. Pour into 8x8 psn. Bake till golden |
Etky, just wanted to tell you that I made it and my husband loved it.
I told him that its supposed to taste like potato kugel. He was like oh I thought it tastes more like a quiche:)
