There were also little containers of gefilte fish - was that an accompaniment to the tuna? Or were we treated to a sea food delicacy twice a week? I don’t recall.

She can’t be online now- she had no access. Maybe you were in her class.
But she remembers Mrs Uhr checking their fingernails each Monday to make sure they were cut!

I always tell my kids about the lunch schedule. (And 1 slice pizza on rosh chodesh. Parents had to pay separately for)
It's my version of "walked 5 miles to and from school, both ways uphill"

Something like 90% of the new people in Detroit are from Lakewood.

We did not get pizza on Rosh Chodesh! Talk about uphill both ways.

Coop in 9th street yeshiva apt basement, with Rabbi Binyomin Finkelstein stocking the shelves, open a couple of hours daily...

I loved going to Gelbsteins through the spooky parking lot and not being able to sit. Only take out.
My grade had only one class of about 15 girls and only one hs.

I think Ahavas Torah was ahead of it's times. We also got donuts. (Donated by the Fisch family?)

I'm not from Lakewood. I was in Camp Sternberg in the mid 80s. There was an aidel girl from Lakewood who told me she gets two new Shabbos dresses a year- one for Rosh Hashana and one for Pesach. I admired the simplicity.

Mrs. Miller!! I loved the woman. She was full of positive energy!
Miss Greenbaum is now Mrs. Rockove, another early Lakewood family.
