After all those safety threads, I was wondering what the reaction to this will be.
My two year old loves playing in the bathtub for a long time and I don't have so much time to sit with her.
I leave her there with the door open, and set up a video monitor, so I can see her while I'm in the kitchen.
The bathroom is about 20 feet away and I can be there in an instant. I also can hear every splash and every word she says.
I check on her every few minutes.
What could be wrong.

Fine with me. Who said it takes three seconds to drown. That’s not true.

Really? A human being goes for 3 seconds without oxygen and dies?
(Besides, I can be there in under 3 seconds.)

I was in a burn unit once and saw a 2 year old with horrific burns on his face and head. Like melted plastic. He was completely disfigured, like from a horror movie. He had been left in the tub while mom went to answer the phone, decided to turn the faucet on to "drink" from it, it malfunctioned & came out burning hot.
It was over 20 years ago and I haven't forgotten. I pray he was able to get plastic surgery enough to afford him a decent life.

Your eyes should be on the monitor every second, so there no point of a monitor, you anyways can't do anything else. So you might as well sit at the bathtub.
I also know a child that got severe burns from turning on the bath faucet. It takes a second to get severally burnt.

It’s not ok to leave a toddler in the bath for a second. Like a poster above said, if you don’t take your eyes off the monitor why don’t you just sit and watch him?
That said, it’s ok to leave the toddler by family while you recuperate after birth.
Just make sure they’re not the type who leave toddlers in tubs or run errands while toddler is asleep.

No. It's dangerous. Kids slip under the water by mistake all the time, even 3 year olds and up. They sometimes get disoriented and need someone to pull them up. I know you can get there quickly, but it is still risky.
ALSO:
A big part of water safety is teaching a child that they can NEVER enter a body of water without an adult there watching. Your 2 year old doesn't really get the difference between you watching on a monitor and her climbing into a pool by herself with no supervision.
(In my book, the same parents who "hit" for running into the street or touching the stove can hit for dangerous water behavior. )

If the tub has no water in it, and the 2 year old can’t turn on the faucets, I would. But that’s super boring. My kids would rather play with trucks in the playroom.

This. Much much more dangerous than leaving a kid in a crib. Not that that's safe either. Water is dangerous.

Please stop doing this OP. I assume you're asking because you know you're creating a risk of danger to your toddler and you want someone to tell you.
If you have further doubts, why don't you speak to someone who represents hatzalah and ask them for their thoughts on this.

I do keep my eyes on the monitor every second. It's set up next to me on the counter and I don't move from there.
I'm not concerned about drowning. It's not possible to happen.
But thanks for pointing out the burn concern. I didn't think of that, that is why I asked.
Although she's incapable of turning on the faucet right now.
