I can't afford to go private. My older kid was 2.5 with under 50 words when evaluated, and didn't qualify.
My other kid sang full songs by 18 months. And was using adorable expressive language before 2.

For drinking coffee on the couch you can get a babysitter for $12 an hour , or $6 in a group? No need to pay $200 an hour for that.

Lol! Or a monitor. LOL
No. I'm not concerned enough to pay out of pocket for this. It'll be just a bonus Wink

Sometimes it's perfectionism, if they can't say it properly they don't even try. That's when they go from zero speaking to fully speaking, when ready.

Another thing, if he is getting what he wants without talking, why should he bother. Don't give him anything when he points only when he says what he needs. Pretend you don't understand.

You could do some things yourself, as therapist,
point to items & label.
Repeat words till you get blue in face, until he starts repeating. You can pick two new words every day to work on.
You can read books that label objects.

I do think it's perfectionism. More than once he said a word, I repeated it after him proudly, he gave me this look and never said it again.
I did try not giving him, but how long can you deny a child a drink when he can't say it? I pour him the drink while saying vas-ser, vas-ser.... I talk to him ALL DAY! We look at books. I point to and name pix, ask him where pix are and he points, and he points to pix saying doo waiting for me to say the word. I try saying only consonants like lalalala or mamamama. He doesn't repeat.

Some kids are late talkers. It doesn't hurt getting him evaluate though
