Were working with doctors trying to figure this out, has anyone ever had this?
Baby with ongoing croup for several weeks has not responded and already did 3rd round of steroids.
Chest xray was clear, doing a neck xray now.
Any ideas?

Croup does not typically go on for several weeks. Ask your doctor for other possible diagnoses.

Whooping cough was my first thought too. Otherwise, any mold/water damage in the home?
What is baby being treated with? Any new foods?

Dont think its whooping cough, baby has been home with me. Also its not constant, several times during the day and attacks at night.
Shes has also been getting secondary infections such as eye infection and just now ear infection. She has been treated 3 times with steroids and twice with antibiotics in the past few weeks.
Its making me so anxious and cant hear my poor baby struggle and be in pain.

Like I said were working on it, been to the dr many times. Have an appt with a cardiologist to rule out vascular ring, also scheduled with a pulmonologist but diagnosis doesnt happen overnight which is why im asking

Whopping cough comes exactly the way you described. Not constant. I remember a few yrs ago when it was going around in Brooklyn. Ds had it bh a mild case. But those attacks were as scary as can be.

Whooping cough is airborne. We also got it after being home for a long time.

If in between attacks child is okay, it is for sure whooping cough. Get them azithromycin as soon as they're tested. And keep them away from other people especially babies as It's highly contagious.

X-ray will not pick up something plastic. We had a baby in our office who had croup that wouldn't go away, and they ended up doing a bronchoscopy under anesthesia, and found and removed a plastic star that the child had swallowed and had lodged itself in his airway.

These are coughing attacks? Stridor attacks?

Were you given a nebulizer?

Thanks for all the ideas, just called the dr now and she didnt really think whooping cough but said it did cross her mind at one point and felt bad we didnt test on todays visit. Heading back tomorrow to check for that.
Hopefully its that, way more simple then her other suggestions.

But without the stridor part of it (which would indicate inflammation in the throat in line with croup)? Just those awful very intense coughing attacks? It could be many things then- whooping cough, rsv, athsma..... Just some ideas....

IY"H will be resolved quickly and easily
