Hi,

We are right wing black hat orthodox (not yeshivish) and wondering what it's like I'm las Vegas for elementary school. Are there separate boys and girls classes in any of the schools? Are most of the kids from similar homes? Are there young families?

Thanks so much

I can answer about DTA, Dessert Torah Academy, which is run by Chabad of Southern Nevada.
MY husband grew up there and his parents still live there.
The school is co-ed classes up until 4th grade, and 5th-8th is separate classes but same building.
My husband thinks as of now 40-60% of the school are from Frum homes, there is a definite mix of student backgrounds.
There are many young families moving into the Henderson area.

I can't answer about the Chofetz Chaim School.

There is a Chofetz Chaim school which I hear has been growing nicely. But Las Vegas is about as OOT as it gets, so other than the Rebbeim and kollel families, I think many of the other families will be quite diverse, which has pros and cons. I would imagine that it's not co-ed, but don't know for sure. Here's their website for more info: https://ydlv.org/

There are two growing communities, Henderson and Summerlin. I’ve been to Henderson a few times. Nice houses, nice people, in both communities. Tend to nowadays attract LA people who want cheaper housing. You can be frum there for sure. I’m coming from “in town” so whenever I go out of town it’s new for me - much bigger mix of people. You need to put on your acceptance of others mode. The classes I think are mixed in the beginning and then become separate as the kids get older. There are now two separate high schools as well.
