It seems everywhere I turn, people are angry at each other. The maskers are angry at the anti-maskers and vice-versa. The Trump haters are angry at the Trump voters and vice-versa.
What does any one know for sure and certain that can make you so passionate about it?
At the end of the day, nothing is certain. We only know what we've been fed by our peers, by the media etc. Do masks help stop the Covid spread? The health officials say yes. Could they be wrong? Sure they can. Can anyone stand on a podium and swear to the world that masks are the absolute solution? Or that masks don't help at all? No one can.
The same goes for politics. For people who say Trump is immoral and twisted...isn't any man who thinks "yes, I am special enough/smart enough to be the president of the USA"? Don't you have to be a little off to even want to run for president in the first place? Who cares?
Why can't everyone vote quietly and shut up about it?
Why can't people just wear their mask or not wear their mask (as long as they don't come up to other people's faces) and be quiet about it? What is everyone fighting for? Why so much anger?
Rant over. Thanks for listening.

I didn’t listen. How dare you make such a claim?!
On a serious note, people use the little information they have and pretend that that is all there is to know on the subject. They become passionate because they are convinced that their take on the matter is the only truth.

How dare you push your social distancing agenda? COVID is fake!

It's mostly on social media. I don't see it happening IRL.

Because there is a lot at stake:
1. Masks are not the end of the world - but lockdowns that destroy people's parnossah and jobs are.
So is shutting down schools for months on end.
2. An election of Capitalism vs Socialism or as I put it Freedom vs Tyranny is very important.
Even if you don't pay attention to politics, that doesn't mean politics won't pay attention to YOU.
3. Security of Israel and Our Religious Rights (Yeshiva, Bris Milah and Shechitah. Keeping Shuls open)
are also at stake.

Staying home from parties helps with weight loss and so, unfortunately, does Covid.

Awesome post, OP.
Genius - 100% agree - your post reminds me of Alexander Pope’s poem -
A little learning is a dangerous thing
drink deep or taste not the Pierian spring
for shallow draughts intoxicate the brain
and learning largely sobers us again

This short and to-the-point post sums it all up. We argue because the truth is unclear, and until then, there will always be two sides to the issue (or more).
Plus, arguing is fun. Come on, you know it's true.

This is so true!
The other day I had a two hour discussion with a friend of mine. We have pretty opposite views about Covid. I think that we have to follow the health guidelines that we DO know about, even if we don't like them. I also think we have to follow the law of the land.
She thinks that all we have to do is daven, and that rabbonim know better than doctors and researchers.
We managed to talk civilly to each other the entire time, and if voices were ever raised it was to emphasize a point, but never in anger or in trying to talk over each other. We both ended up not convincing each other of anything, but we both agreed that we didn't know everything, either.
It IS possible to be respectful of people who don't share your views. It IS possible to agree to disagree. It's even possible to not discuss things that will just make you unhappy with your friends.
The fine art of debate has been lost, and screeching arguments have replaced it. Nobody learns anything, and egos reign supreme. Is this what makes Hashem proud of us? I think not.

OP I'm with you.
The day I realized that politics for me superceded my ahavas yisroel I knew I was off-balance.
To say we know anything when dealing with a new virus whenp every study has another contradicting it, to me that's arrogance. But we follow rules because it's good practice for kabbalas ol malchus shamayim.
Everything is in Hashem's hands. Hashem is showing us a slow motion picture of how the Geulah unfolds!
This is the time to strengthen ourselves with achdus and ahavas yisroel. Not to make separations between Yidden chas veshalom.
If we can smile at people IRL behind a mask, we can certainly smile at each other over the internet.
Can we all just calm down and relax and trust Hashem that He has an amazing plan ahead for us!
Lchaim.

People argue things they doubt, not facts. As long as there are so many arguing proves the lack of clarity surrounding those subjects
