My ds is 12 years old. He has PANDAs and was just off the medicine for a few weeks and now he has begun stuttering terribly. He has been in speech therapy since he was little, and the therapist said to take him to a doctor because it seems to be a medical problem. She does think the PANDAS can be causing it, but now he's been back on medicine for a few days and there has been no improvement. We
plan to go to the doctor tomorrow.
I feel so bad for the poor kid. It takes him a few minutes to say each sentence. A typical sentence will sound something like this: "I um I um I um I um um I um um I um um I um I um um I want um I want want I want um I want um to I want to go go I want to go for a um a for a um a um for a um a w w walk." And this is happening all day long!
Any one have experience with this? Any advice?

Did you try round the clock motrin in Antibiotics.. assuming that's the medicine you're referring to him restarting?
Are you seeing a pandas specialist? So sorry.. my son has pans too...

No. I've read here about using motrin and I wondered if I should. I'll ask the doctor today.

My ds had that as his only pandas symptom. He was on meds for many months and every time we took him off he started stuttering again. Bh hes off the meds now for over. Year. Weve given him turmeric as an anti-inflammatory as per dr Schulman. But every time he gets a strept his first symptom is a stutter.
My concern about your kid is y hes not responding to the meds. We were told that zithromax helps the bacteria and inflammation (that causes the side effect which is a stutter).
Hope he gets out of it quickly. Its very frustrating

He did respond tot he medicine. He was off it for a few weeks because we were away and couldn't get refill and the stuttering began.

Augmentin worked better for us than azithromycin. For stuttering we also did lots of b vitamins especially b1, gaba to counteract excess glutamate, different forms of magnesium, and NAC.

I know this is old, but maybe you will see this message.
How did you get him off it? and how much turmeric did you give him?
