I don't even know why I'm writing. To vent, for chizzuk, some hope? My 4 month old baby still has colic. Uncontrollable screaming and crying for absolutely most of the day/night. I promise I tried and am still trying it all. Non dairy Formula, strong probiotic, swing, gripe water, stroller, carrier, allergy testing, medical exams etc etc etc etc...... My small hope was hearing from others and ped+ specialists, was that it goes away by 3-4 months. Ive been really really holding on to that. But it's now a wk over 4 months theres not much of a change. Has anyone dealt with it for a longer time? When did it finally stop? How did you cope till then? I just feel so disappointed in myself. He is not my first, but it just kills me to not be able to help my baby. Im turning into a total wreck.
Thanks for hearing me out.

I'm so sorry, this is so difficult! I won't give any practical ideas since it seems you've tried them all. I used to carry my colicky baby outside for long walks (he wouldn't lie in the stroller) and found it helpful for my own sanity. Some people swear by the car but that made my babies scream even more. I hope this passes very soon

Yesss my baby screams more in the car too. In fact im too scared to even drive w him alone because the screaming distracts me and I dont want to risk any safety. He only liked the carrier first 2 wks. Im not sure what changed. Thank you for hearing me out though

might he have silent reflux?
That would mean no obvious signs of reflux. My daughter's pediatrician suspected it and made us take here for an upper GI, and it was clear as day. Put her on reflux meds and she was a new kid.
Also, 3 of my babies were allergic to soy and screamed bloody murder from it. Did well on neocate.

Not silent. Very very not silent. On 2 meds. Every feed. No allergies but on neocate anyway- since the beginning when it was too early to rule out. No meds seem to make a difference. But the GI basically explained its for long term effects/damage at this point.
I keep going for more opinions but its just waste of his time at this point. I know its time but I guess I was really hanging on to this 4 month benchmark.

Can you get someone to watch your baby for 2-3 hours a day so you can get some rest and recharge?
Also, there was an article in Ami several months ago about a woman who had this kind of problem with her baby and she went to someone who did some type of bodywork. He manipulated the baby somehow and the baby gave a huge sigh of relief and the problem was gone.

Is it possible your baby is hungry and you don’t realize? Maybe she had a growth spurt but you’re not aware because you think it’s colic?

Qian Yuan at MGH in Boston is really good for difficult to solve GI issues and correctly diagnosed 2 of my children after other GI doctors effectively told me there was nothing to do.

Hugs OP. Mother of several screamers here.
I know that helples, desperate feeling, thinking that if one could die from lack of sleep, you'd be deader than dead.
For 2 of my babies, neocate was the solution.
But with my last one it didnt stop his cries. Turns out, he was suffering for weeks from an ear infection, which the pediatrician didnt see. We only realized when his eardrums burst, poor baby.
Maybe check his ears, if you didnt already.

Can he possibly be overtired? Babies need a lot of sleep. If he’s up most of the day crying, he’s probably not sleeping enough. It might not be colic, it can just be an overtired baby. I’d recommend a sleep expert

Hungry- nope. He is bh gaining well, and diapers tell me not. Also when he colic cries he won't take a bottle its not the issue. Tired- yes he is very much so but he never really got good sleep even as a newborn hell wake from affects of reflux- I.e choking, vomiting, difficulty w a burp etc despite being fed 2 hours prior to a nap. Sometimes putting him back is affective other times not. But its not a sudden development. The thing about colic is they can't really be soothed.

Topical magnesium is very safe for babies and helps with calming the nervous system, aiding digestion, sleep, etc. Also, a word about reflux, very often it’s too little digestive enzymes as opposed to too much. And that’s why reflux meds fail.
