Has anyone replaced a toilet and can guide me? I'm not a dyi person but where do I start? Contractor? Plumber?
What should I know?

It's really not a hard job, if you want to try your hand at it. But if you need someone else to do it, any handyman can do it. You don't need a plumber, which would be more expensive.
A handyman once advised me that if you're going to replace a toilet, to make sure to upgrade the wax seal underneath to the "jumbo" kind that they sell separately at the home repair store. Don't use the one that comes standard with the toilet.

I just bought one.
Toto is the best brand. Should cost in the mid 200s. Elongated is the most comfortable. You can spend about $30 more to have it a couple inches higher (comfort height) if you want. Otherwise, not necessary.
Any plumbing supply store should be able to help you.
Then call your plumber to install it.
