I know not to use a blanket. My bedroom is much cooler than the rest of the house which works well because my husband and I get hot at night. So what can I wrap the baby with to make sure he/she is warm but not too hot? My last baby hated being swaddled so I’m not sure if that will work.

A sleep sack, it’s a little sack with shoulder straps that zips down the front. Very cozy and safe. You can get them on Amazon, Hanna Andersson, Little Unicorn, lots of places sell them. There are thicker and thinner ones. I have very warm ones from Hanna Andersson, might be a bit too much for a newborn. I’d add a hat if it’s a newborn.

Im very happy so far with the halo sleep sack.

Babies shouldn’t sleep with a hat generally, so I’d check with my pediatrician if you plan to do that. I guess depends how cold it really is.

Sleep sack as other said but *no hat*
A hat can slip down over baby’s face.

It's the 1st time I'm hearing no hats for sleeping. All my babies sleep with a hospital style hat, non have gone on their face.

In addition to a fleece sack, if it's really cold, I will put my baby into fleece pajamas too.

I’m really glad nothing happened to your babies, but “I did x and survived” is not an argument. Some babies have died.
Anything that can become loose in the crib can be a suffocation hazard. Babies don’t need hats after the first few days anyway so there’s no reason not to skip the hat, since it’s both unsafe and unnecessary. In any case overheating is more of a danger than being too cool.

Interesting, my doctor said to keep the hat in till maybe is after 3 months. Forgot why tho.

I don’t know why your doctor would recommend it. The American academy of pediatrics recommends against wearing hats for sleep:

This thread is the first time I'm seeing anything against babies wearing hats while sleeping.

I swaddle my babies as long as they are ok with it and keep hats on them until a few months old.

Never knew it was an issue.

I guess you live and learn.
