Salad or cooked vegetables.
Corn and french fries are starches
With buns/bread, my family does not need more carbohydrates.

I don't know about balanced, but with hot dogs & buns, I generally serve:
coleslaw
baked beans
french fries
corn on the cob
sometimes I serve all those sides, and sometimes I serve some of them.

I'll make a soup sometimes.
But hot dogs and buns are meant for when I don't want to be in the kitchen. So I just put out some sliced veggies (pickles, tomatoes etc) and condiments (ketchup, sriracha mayo) and zeh hu.
If someone wants fries I'll pop frozen fries in the oven.

That's a rare dinner for us, but when I serve this I always have a big garden salad or lots of cut up veggies with chummus or similar dip. Sometimes baked beans or fries too.
