Why is anyone happy anywhere?
Attitude, emunah, and expectations.
If you face life with an open heart, and choose to think of challenges as "an adventure", then you can go pretty far.
When you can truly internalize "Gam zu l'tova", you can see that it's all for the good (at least most of the time. We're human, and bound to be sad occasionally.)
If you expect things to be a certain way, and you are frustrated, disappointed, or disillusioned, you are going to be miserable.
When people ask me what is the most important thing to bring when they make Aliyah from their home country, I always tell them "a good attitude". If you bring that, you can do anything.
