My son had an evaluation done by a neurodevelopment specialist. We got no diagnosis for his behavior but it was recommended he see a behavioral therapist to help manage his regulation issues.

He’s not yet 4.

Is there anyone really good in Chemed or elsewhere that takes insurance? Being that he’s so young I would really need someone who can get through to him.

Thank you!

What kind of behavioral therapist are you looking for? From what I understand that term covers so much. Be aware that if he gets some sort of behavioral therapy once a week it will really need you to carry it over the whole week for it to be successful so that should be a big part in your decision too.

Honestly don’t know! Are there diffrent kinds? I’m new to this...

Yes I am aware and ready to change. I’m looking for a therapist who can give us a plan managing his behaviors. When he gets upset he spirals out of control throwing things, coloring everywhere, spilling everything ect. Nothing can calm him down except his pacifier. He has trouble sleeping a normal schedule (wakes up every night from 2-5 thrn sleeps till 9.. won’t stay in bed ect.), every time we want him to get dressed or use the toilet it’s a fight. He hits the minute he doesn’t get something. He’s just plain difficult. (Adorable too.)

We’re at a loss of how to deal with him and would love a therapist who can make a plan.

As a BCBA I would highly recommend having someone like that help you in the home where the behaviors are occurring. It wouldn't be covered under insurance though since h doesn't have the autism diagnosis. I can try and help you a bit if you want to go that route- just let me know and I will change post so that you can actually pm me.

Thank you. I’ve been trying for 2 years to get a diagnosis but wasn’t successful. It’s frustrating because my sister works as a aba therapist in a aba preschool and claims he’s the perfect candidate and that some kids are even more functional thrn him Sad

I wish I knew where all his behaviors were coming from. It would help us relate to him better.

We’re doing ot once a week but without real improvement. We might up ot to 2 but it’s a real shlep.

Do you know how much such a thing would cost?

Can you elaborate? This isn’t new behavior. It’s just gotten worse.

We have similar issues. Unfortunately as most people will tell you its hard to find somebody on insurance. However we use Childrens Specialized Hospital in Toms River for DS 11. Right now all we get is medication for anxiety but it helps. They may also be able to help with behavioral issues. At the very least it doesn't hurt to try, especially if you cant afford to pay a fortune out of pocket like most of us. They do have long waits so may as well call and if something else works out you can always cancel

We use them for ot and I got him evaluated there this week by Jen Manzo. Due to the long wait I thought I’d try somewhere in Lakewood like Chemed or something. Also, closer by.

Does anyone have any therapist in Chemed they’d recommend?

The problem is that the behaviors you described won't go away in a child that young through just play or talk therapy. In NJ you are lucky enough to be able to have the help of a BCBA even without that diagnosis. I know its not affordable to do this on the same basis as you would therapy, but if you want help to get something set up on a consulting basis PM me.

Thanks. For those that suggested I pm them- can you elaborate what you can help with before I pm you?

I’m really looking for something in network...

I know I can get a bcba privately.

Sounds like my daughter. There was no sudden onset, no tics, no OCD. After too many years of different therapies, parenting help, etc. turned out it was PANDAS.
I'm in Lakewood too. Who's your pediatrician?
