Yasmin (for a girl, obvs)

Yes, I am aware it has Persian origins.

But I really love it.

Yay or Nay?

ETA: Oh heck, I just remembered that its also the name of a birth control pill Sad

Yeah, I was thinking of the pill, too.
It’s a pretty name. I like unique, so it would be a yes from me if it didn’t have other connotations.
Btw, love your screen name!

No. And I’m MO

Meaning it could be a secular name like Lisa or Michelle. But it’s not a Hebrew name

Correction: it's Hebrew for Jasmine. If you would name a kid Shoshana or Vered, then it's just as legitimate.

OP, in Israeli society it is a lovely name, though as you said - overall Persian, and with no religious connotation per se.

I didn’t know that. I guess it doesn’t seem to be a ‘Jewish’ name to me. If my kid had a Yasmin in her class I would think that her parents were Hispanic (I know many Hispanic people with that name) This is in NYC.

As Rappel said, it’s a common enough name in Israel (not very popular and a bit dated but I know at least one), actually sounds very Israeli to me.

Yes, it's Hebrew for Jasmin. But it's pronounced יסמין with a פתח י in Hebrew. Like Yosmin, not Yasmin.
I think it's a common name by the arabs.

Interesting . To me A patach WOULD be pronounced yasmin. A kumatz would be pronounced yosmin

I don’t know where you’re getting this Yosmin from, in modern Hebrew there is no difference between Kamatz and Patach, they both sound the same and it the name is pronanced Yasmeen (but I imagine spelled Yasmin).

Every Tsofiya I know is very pretty, and very intelligent. I also think it's a gorgeous name with a lot of depth to it. I've never met someone in the US name Tsofiya, but that doesn't mean there shouldn't be one.
