Hacham Obadiah Yosef’s wife was named Margalit
Isn’t that the name of a flower as well.

But isn’t Sophia a Greek name , and Tzofiya the Hebrew version.
Like on birth certificate I would put Sophia. But oficialy we would name Tzofiya .

Those two names sound similar but no relation to each other at all. Tzofiya is a legitimate hebrew name in its own right.

(Sorry off topic OP!)

I know a geoyres called Sarah Yasmina, that's her jewish name and her non Jewish name was Yasmin.

I've heard it used by both secular Israelis and Arabs, but not frum Jews.

I don't like that the second syllable which is the one with the stress, is "min".

Me too!
When I was pregnant and we found out it was a girl, we started to throw around names. DH says Yasmin and I said no way. He say but it's his favorite name, he loves it, etc.
We live in Israel. No one would bat an eyelash. I know several frum parents who gave that name to their daughters. I just didn't care for it.
When DD was 2, we got neighbors with a newborn baby and that was her name!
I told DH that is as close as he will get to a DD named Yasmin LOL LOL

People name their children after the city of their conception, so why not after the birth control?

Two pages in, and I can't believe no one has mentioned the Disney princess Jasmine, from the movie "Aladdin". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jasmine_(Disney_character)

If any of her peers have see the movie, she'll never hear the end of it.

I heard of a giyoret who chose the name Yasmin because she loved Jasmine from Aladdin. Mnay years later she went to a Rav because she wanted to change her name because she was embarrassed of the reason she chose it. The Rav said absolutely not! Yasmin is listed along with roses and many other fragrant woods as something you make a bracha on when smelling. So it is in the same category as the name shoshana - a beautiful creation in Hashem's world.

Margulis was a viznitz rebbetzin, there are plenty of Margulis named after her. It’s a pearl.

Agreeing with others that the Hebrew pronunciation is YasMEEN. Obviously, yes a Hebrew name.

That said, in non-frum circles (secular world), it will always be pronounced Yasmin, rhymes with Jasmine. Isn't Jasmine the princess in Aladdin? That's what it makes me think of.

If you love the name, go for it. If you want a name that comes across as Jewish in the US, I think this Yasmin will have a different connotation.

(I work in a non-Jewish school... lots of experience with interesting/newer names of students.)

I was a bit more discreet. Ds is Itche Usher Dan, and our last name is Felsenfalkawitzenstein.

I'm going Amother for all you people who know my tzaddikel irl. Hi

Edited to add that I think the name Yasmin (Yasmine) is beautiful. I don't know any in my American community but if you and your husband love it - go for it!

Oh, I see my color is copper. How very appropriate.
