What names are very common in your community?
And are there any names you love but aren’t seen as “normal” in your community, but are totally accepted in other circles ?

All of these names are very rare in my Brooklyn chassidish community.

Which community are you in?

I don’t mean the town speifically but “a large out of town community “ or “a modern orthodox community in New York” or “a dati leumi community in Israel “ etc

I don’t understand why Tamar never became
Mainstream in so many circles when it’s a Tanakh name

Rbtzn Shteinman a”h was named Tamar.

I live in Lakewood.

I see the typical Rochel/Rachelli , Esther , Leah etc. - imahos and other matriarchs
Millions of Batsheva’s ages 8 and under after Rbtzn Kanievskt
But some names I see a lot are Ahuva and Nechama , often added to a grandmother name (frequently yiddish and the child only goes by Ahuva or Nechama).

My son is not in school yet so I haven’t noticed trends. Lots of Moishe, Dovid, Yehuda , yitzchak etc

I love the name Noa for a girl but it's not really heard in our community. We're in America, more on the yeshivish side though our city is mixed. I've met a few Noas who's parents are very modern. I never understood why this name isn't so 'done' when it's from Tanach, one of the bnos tzelafchad. DH feels like in America it's too much like Riley or Taylor - going with a boyish androgynous name. But maybe one day I'll convince him!

I suggested Tamar for my youngest and he was aghast! Lol

I live in Lakewood and those are all pretty common. Aside from the usual Avos and Imahos, etc. which are usually after grandparents. For boys, Daniel is very common.

Lol, I love the name Noa and wonder if I’ll be able to use it someday. We have been naming for relatives so far.

I love unique names and ironically my children have very generic names.

I am a teacher in lakewood and most of these are student’s names! I love Tamar, but it is my mother’s name. I know several Tamar’s my age as well. I do think that double names are becoming less common.

Are these more common then the typicals like:

Malky
Ruchy
Sury
Gitty
Rivky
Esty
Faigy
Shaindy
Raizy
Chany
Etc...

Or do you mean that these come after the real common ones?

No the ones you listed are less common. There is one ruchy, one esty etc... but 3 tehillas and 3 ahuvas per class. I don't think I know many raizys, faigys, shaindys etc.. here

Yes, in those circles, they would not use most of the names you posted. They are mostly Yiddish names.
Aliza would be Fraidy in chassidish circles
Racheli would be Ruchy
Tova would be Gitty
Ahuva would be Liba
Atara is Kreindy
Tziporah is Faigy
Shoshana is Raizy
Etc.

I wonder if you teach in an older grade at a newer school and have many students named Tehila Mindel, Tehila Breindel etc that go by Tehila .

The only people I know named Tehila or Ahuva are like this. Do you teach in one of the less yeshivish schools ? Can’t imagine a class full of a Tehilas and Ahuvas at Bnos Melech.

I don't teach these are the names in my kid's schools and in my neighborhood. None of them have second names.
