Is there a reliable company that sprays to get rid of mice, instead of putting down poison?
Is there anything as effective as putting down poison?

I had mice in the country this past summer. Dh tried traps with poison they didn’t work . We called an expert, and The exterminator put down thin metal sheets in by all the crevices he could find. Some people put steel wool in any holes.
After the exterminator put down these sheets we didn’t see the mouse again.

Many years ago I heard of this story:
Someone had rats in their house so they called the cheapest exterminator in the phone book. A man that was from Vietnam and came with a knife and left with a whole bunch of them. He asked the man
"what are you doing with them?"
"Supper"
They never had rats after that so I guess the exterminator knew what to do.

The most effective treatment is closing up any holes so they don't get in.
If you're in a building, you do need traps or poison since you can't control what the other tenants do.
